I'm in an ongoing battle with this same dysfunction, holding the line or moving into the black, maybe. However, I often wonder how the method above, which I do use, can be made more useful when the cause of the rumination is persistent; e.g. the outside problem is real, I do not have the power to control it, and it will continue to impact both the functioning of my life, and the focus of my mental attention (manifest as rumination when my mind is not otherwise occupied strongly)? The answer I come up with myself, is that it is the same method, just harder and with more acceptance, willingness to bear a cross silently and graciously. Thanks for the care you put into this.

Sorrow about your problems are emotions that you have created in your mind
They are not real , they only seem real to you
You are not the problems , separate your self from your problems by puting your problems in a basket and then let go
Then look at these as items on your to do list , and bear them because they are temporary
Practice at 3 levels
1) body level... do not sweat the small stuff and it is all small stuff
2) speech ...do not complain about it either to yourself or others , we make the problem larger by complaining
Do not magnify the problem which is waste of your time
3)do not worry or self pity the problem because again most of the time we are not in control of the problem we are only in control of our thoughts to the problem
Then why worry
